Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) was a major American Pop Art artist, famous for his paintings inspired by comic strips and advertising, with flat areas of primary color, sharp outlines, and Ben-Day dots. Through the appropriation and enlargement of these “popular” images, he questioned originality, reproduction, and mass culture in contemporary art.
