Max Liebermann

Max Liebermann (1847–1935) was a German painter and printmaker, a major figure of German Impressionism, famous for his scenes of modern life and his light-filled gardens. A co-founder of the Berlin Secession, he also shaped Berlin’s artistic life as head of the Prussian Academy of Arts, before being marginalized under the Nazi regime because of his Jewish origins.
