Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons (born in 1955 in York, Pennsylvania) is an iconic American artist of Neo-Pop and Postmodernism, famous for his sculptures with immaculate surfaces that draw on advertising, kitsch, and mass culture. He rose to prominence in the 1980s with works featuring consumer objects and recontextualized readymades, and later achieved global fame through his monumental mirror-polished stainless-steel pieces, such as the Balloon Dogs, which transform childlike forms into luxurious icons. His practice is based on highly industrialized studio production and a deliberate staging of desire and value, making him one of the most media-visible—and most controversial—artists on the contemporary art market.
