Jean Dubuffet

Jean Dubuffet (1901–1985) was a major French post-war artist, known for theorizing and promoting Art brut, which values forms of creation outside established cultural circuits (self-taught artists, outsiders, and psychiatric patients). His own work—painting, sculpture, and architecture—favours thick materiality, rough textures, and a deliberately anti-academic aesthetic that challenges traditional hierarchies of art.
